Two Beautiful Beachfront Lots For Sale in Rancho Tancah 3

image image

Tancah is an idyllic, secluded little enclave about 6 kms. (3.5 miles) north of the Tulum archaeological zone and about 100 kms. (62 miles) south of the Cancun International Airport. There are only 56 lots and, with 2 exceptions, the zoning is single family residences. Each lot measures 25 meters (80 feet) beachfront by 50 meters (160 feet) deep, or about 1/3 acre.

The beach is fine, powdery-white sand stretching along the 2-mile length of a tranquil, shallow, crystal-clear turquoise bay, which is protected by a multi-colored coral reef about 300 yards offshore which teems with tropical marine life. It's a perfect spot for snorkeling, windsurfing, and sailing hobie cats. Outside the reef it drops off to depths of 30 feet and more for fishing, and diving.

Across the one-lane access road is a large, crystalline cenote, which is a pond fed by underground springs. It's an exotic, magical place to snorkel or dive in, with lots of small fish and rays, moss-covered rocks in intricate formations and a very occasional manatee.

The cenote is reminiscent of the Tarzan movies we saw as kids, evoking the same emotions of adventure and mystery. Where the cenote empties out underground into the bay, it forms a whirlpool which gently pushes you out rather than drawing you in. It's home to many fish which wait there to feed on the vegetation from the cenote. On the beach between the cenote and the whirlpool is a charming palapa restaurant which has great food and is the local meeting place and watering hole.

Tancah is the perfect departure point for day trips to Cancun and points in between, such as Akumal, Puerto Aventuras, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. If you head south, just past Tulum you enter Sian Ka'an, the 1.3 million acre Biosphere, "where the earth meets the sky". Area archaeological sites such as Coba and Chichen Itza are also ideal as day excursions.

Currently there is a 4-lane highway from Cancun to Xcaret and a good 2-lane highway the rest of the way. An international airport in Tulum is in its planning stages.
